THE MILL IN THE PAST

Wouldn’t it be nice to see what the mill looked like back in time! Unfortunately there appears to be very few pictures of the mill known. In fact to date I have only found three pictures that show part of the mill and all these appear to date to the early 20th Century.

The first is a photo of the mill taken from Little Corby Road with two children in the foreground. It was probably taken after heavy rain with the water coming over the cascade. This picture was produced as a coloured postcard but also appears as a black and white illustration in a number of books and pamphlets.

There are two other postcards/photographs of basically the same view, the corner of the road at the Little Corby Road Junction. The mill is apparent in the background.

The cart in the first picture does have Warwick Bridge Mill written on the board. It shows the wooden shed that covered the loading dock in front of the waterwheel. It shows the village shop which was run by the mill and became Millers Cottage after the  Willis family bought the mill in the late 1920s.

The second photograph is possibly slightly later and doesn’t actually show any of the mill. There is no board on the Spinners Arms. This is the white building next door but one to the shop. It is now demolished and a new property built on the site.
